¡THE REAL JEZEBEL!

                                     VS

Through the years in the churches I have experienced, as well as Tele-Evangelist preachers, and even Secularly the term Jezebel. Jezebel has become a title, synonymous with  A prostitute.

Unfortunately, we perish for lack of knowledge, so all to often what happens is, the accuser is actually closer to sin than the accused.

Let s explore Jezebel...

First of all, the name Jezebel originally meant "the lord (Baal) exists". "The lord" refers to the "king of heaven" worshiped by the Syrians.  Originally her name would have been translated as "Virgin of Baal." Her name was most likely altered by the Hebrews because by adding one letter her name took on the negative meaning; "Whore of Baal."
However even this title 'Whore of Baal' doesn't connotate a whore whom is exploited sexually but rather a whore of idolatry...

Jezebel was the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians. She is mentioned in scripture as marrying Ahab King of Israel (871-852 BC). Their union is described as sort-of the icing on a cake of sin.
"...as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him. And he reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria... and Ahab did more to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him" (1Kings 16:31-33).

Now its worth noting that in the beginning of chapter 16 Ahab is decendant in a long line of wicked kings. Marrying Jezebel was more insult-to-injury because she lead him to worship pagan gods (namely Baal, a Caananite god) Exodus 34:14-16.

Because of the wickedness of Ahab the Lord caused a drought to come upon the land. When God wanted  to end the drought He sent Elijah to the King.  Meanwhile Jezebel the wife of King Ahab killed all of the Lord s prophets out of the land. Only 100 prophets were saved by the hand of Obadiah(1Kings 18:4)
After this Elijah the prophet returned the favor killing 450 false prophets. (1Kings 18:38-40)
Jezebel then sent messengers to Elijah, and threatened to kill him by the next day.
The man of God was so vexed that he wished death on himself.

Later Jezebel would authorize the death of a man (Naboth) in order to seize his land, his inheritance, for Ahab her husband to plant a vineyard.(1Kings 21:1-15)

Jezebel manipulated her husband (not whoremongers) to go against God to the point
That, this was written about him: "But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up."

Confronting Jezebel: Discerning and Defeating the Spirit of ControlConfronting Jezebel: Discerning and Defeating the Spirit of Control

After the death of Ahab, his son Joram became King. The Lord had already pronounced death upon the household of Ahab, chiefly because of what he allowed Jezebel to do. The Lord instructed the prophet Elisha to anoint Jehu to be King over Israel. The two would-be kings met in the same field that was stolen by Jezebel.
"And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?"
When Jehu speaks of whoredoms here, he means idolatry. Spiritual whoredoms.

The Bible never calls Jezebel a whore!

This is the same type of spiritual fornication spoken of by John in Revelation 2:20.
The spirit of Jezebel is in women that leads men (weather husband or congregation) astray from following the Most High God.

After Jehu overthrew Joram, he returned to Jezreel.
"And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she [Jezebel] said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master?  And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs.
And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot."

Thus was the end of Jezebel.
Daughter of a pagan King, Wife of an unrighteous King.
Not a whore, prostitute, or street-walker!

When the Eunuch s went to bury her all that was found of her body was her skull, hands, and feet.
Jezebel was was eaten by dogs by the wall of Jezreel.(1Kings21:23/ 2Kings 9:34-37)

FOOD 4 THOUGHT:(you do the dishes)
The reason the children of Israel were originally told not to marry women whom were not of Israel is because they would turn them away from God to serving pagan gods.
"For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice; And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods" (Exodus 34:14-16).

When they took strangers to wife most usually that's exactly what happened. There are also exceptions to: Joseph (son of Jacob), and Moses (wife was daughter of a priest of Midian). Moses, the man Christ was likened to, shows us its not the race of someone that's important.

Especially since we are all trying to shake off the Paganism that surrounds us.
What's important, is what are they willing to give up, in order to achieve salvation?

May the Lord add a blessing to the reading of His word...

  4. So to make this clear. Jezebel was not a prostitute in the way we use it. Like a street walker.
