?THE CURSE OF HAM??

The curse of Ham has been handed down thru the years as an excuse for slavery, apartheid, Jim crow, innumerable injustices and atrocities. This convenient scapegoat shows that we should question their too easy assumptions. The curse of Ham stems from the Biblical story of Noah in Genesis 9. This is the same chapter The Lord establishes a covenant with men and beasts; that he will never again drown the whole earth.

And the token of the covenant is the rainbow.

“And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth... And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying... I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there anymore be a flood to destroy the earth... I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth... And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud... And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth” (Gen. 1-16).

“And the sons of Noah that went forth of the ark were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread. And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness. And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant… And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died” (Genesis 9:18-29).

Through these few verses people of all races nationalities and sects have assumed that the subjugation of people of a dark complexion was fulfilling the prophecy of Noah. The so-called Jews, The Catholic Church, Mormons, Big Corporations, and of course Europeans have all used this chapter to get rich during the trans-Atlantic slave trade. It is said, that in the Talmud it is written that Ham was the progenitor of the Negro race. Therefore, Noah cursed Ham for looking upon his nakedness. As a result the following transformations occurred in creating the Negro; Ham looked upon Noah in the darkness, so his skin was made dark. Because of the darkness, the Negro’s eyes were made large and bulging. Ham’s son Canaan was made to be the servant of servants, therefore ALL "Hamites" [Negroes] were born as slaves. Noah was supposedly sodomized by Ham, so as a curse, the male part (penis) was made large as a curse. [lmb*o… Some Curse]

This folly should be easily cleared up just by actually reading the scripture. In verse 25-27 Noah curses Canaan, the Son of Ham!  Also in the following verses all of the curses are laid upon Ham’s son Canaan, none of the curses are given to Ham himself. Having said that, let us look at the lineage of Ham and Canaan.

"And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan… And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth… And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim" (Genesis 10:6-14).

LET IT BE KNOWN: Ham had 4 sons. Cush (settled in Nubia what is now called the Sudan), Mizram (settled in Egypt also called Kement), Phut (associated with ancient Libya), and Canaan (settled in modern Palestine also known as ‘The Promised Land’).

And now the lineage of Canaan: And Canaan begat Sidon his first born, and Heth, And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite, And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite, And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad. And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha. These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations” (Genesis 10:15-20).

Most of these names should sound familiar to us. For it was of these sons that, God told Abraham his seed would inherit. “…Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites, And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims, And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites” (Genesis 15:18-21)

Also to the children of Israel, “of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth: But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee: That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the LORD your God” (Deuteronomy 20:16-18).

It was the land of Canaan that was the land of ‘milk and honey.’ Therefore the curse of Canaan was fulfilled with Joshua and the children of Israel when they entered the Promised Land. During the years of the Judges of Israel up to David and Solomon the children of Canaan were servants in Israel.

“but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute” (Joshua 16:1-10).

“Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, but did not utterly drive them out” (Joshua 17:11-13).

Even in the Gospels Jesus told the Canaanite woman that it isn’t good to take the children’s bread and give it to dogs, when the Canaanite woman asked for his help (Matthew 15:20-28).

Therefore the curse of Ham is no curse at all. The curse of Canaan is that his land was given to the children of Shem (Arab’s also called Ishmaelites currently dwell in the land of Canaan). Babylon invaded the promised land around 532B.C and from that time to the current day the Gentiles (sons of Japheth), have been enlarged to dwell in the tents of Shem (the land inherited from Canaan), and even then Canaanites lived in the land and served the children of Japheth also.

May the Lord add a blessing to the understanding of His Word; In Jesus Name.
